Geodis Wilson USA Inc.

With a global network in place, it would be difficult to find a supply chain issue that Geodis Wilson could not handle. With its more than 6,400 employees and a self-reliant network of offices and air and ocean hubs in more than 50 countries, Geodis Wilson has the expertise, value-added services and e-services to help customers streamline the flow of their goods. Additionally, the company strives to make customers’ supply chains more transparent and easier to manage.

“Geodis Wilson has tremendous creative and entrepreneurial energy that is fueling the growth of our network and services,” the company says. “We are constantly expanding our network, launching new services and securing more capacity with carriers. This way, we give our clients more choice and better service.”

Delivering cargo by sea and air, Geodis Wilson offers integrated supply chain solutions to markets such as high-tech, pharmaceuticals, textiles and automotive, and it specializes in marine logistics, industrial projects and other niche markets.

Geodis Wilson is part of the Geodis Group, one of Europe’s top-five transport and logistics companies. “Every industry has its own specific characteristics, which is an issue that Geodis has addressed by working with and for companies from different sectors to create a complete range of products and services that take into account market changes and the introduction of new technologies,” the company says. “Geodis employees make every effort to cater for and even anticipate their customers’ needs, putting all their skills into practice to develop innovative solutions that ensure success and contribute toward improving business performance.”

Geodis Wilson has been operating in the United States since the 1950s and has full logistics services offices in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta and Miami. The company also has operations in Boston; Charlotte, N.C.; Dallas; Detroit; Minneapolis; San Francisco; Washington, D.C.; and a state-of-the-art facility in Houston for Geodis Wilson Industrial Projects. The company’s operations are ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001:1996 certified.

“Coupled with first-to-market IT solutions, Geodis Wilson tariff and consulting experience and credentials will provide clients with a service infrastructure that will guarantee accuracy and efficiency to product and information flow,” the company says.

Innovation Leader

In the United States, Geodis Wilson’s services involve forwarding, 3PL, customs brokerage, freight services, e-services, integrated solutions, domestic supply chain solutions and industrial projects. Understanding that its clients’ success depends on if they receive and deliver products on time and at a reasonable cost, Geodis Wilson strives to ensure customers’ supply chains are less risky and complex.

“What companies need is a reliable and cost-effective partner that manages the delivery of their cargo via sea and air, or a combination of both,” the company says. “Geodis Wilson can serve with integrated supply chain solutions that combine global freight management with value-added services and e-services. These make [customers] more competitive and cost-efficient.”

The company’s market share and global network demonstrate its success in the industry, but it also is often recognized for its strengths. In November, Geodis Wilson received the Innovation Process Award at the 2012 Global Freight Awards, which reward best practices in freight and logistics and seek to improve standards in the global freight-forwarding industry.

Geodis Wilson received the award for the development of the ILS Configurator, an application that ties together processes of sales, operations and IT.

Big Contract, Big Project

In late 2012, steel manufacturer Cimolai awarded a $50 million contract to Geodis Wilson. The company will manage the transport of 16 lock gates – each weighing more than 4,000 tons – for the expansion of the Panama Canal. An initial vessel carrying four of the gates departed from Italy in February and the other three shipments will occur throughout the year.

“Geodis Wilson’s role as a key transport provider in one of the world’s most demanding infrastructure projects underlines both our outstanding competence in managing complex heavy-lift shipments and our significance in the global ocean freight sector,” said Pierre Blayau, chairman and CEO of Geodis Group.

A dedicated engineering team led by Geodis Wilson Italy’s Industrial Projects department developed a unique lashing system to secure the gates’ transport via semi-submersible vessels from Italy to Panama. The inland transport, loading and unloading will be coordinated by Geodis Wilson in cooperation with Sarens NV and STX Pan Ocean.

“Geodis Wilson’s Industrial Projects division has achieved an internationally recognized high status due to its innovative and sustainable approach to transportation solutions,” the company says. “Recently, the company managed a record-breaking airfreight shipment of wind turbine blades from China to Scandinavia and also took a leading role in developing the first rail freight solution for similar blade deliveries within Europe.”
